HOW TO PREPARE ENTRIES FOR MCC CLUB COMPETITIONS

1. Please note that the requirements below do not cover NCPF competitions.

PRINT PREPARATION

2. Each print needs to have a title written on the back and if necessary, a mark indicating the top edge of the print. This can be a great help when the picture is an abstract composition. There should be no other identifying marks on the print. Maximum size of the mount being - length 20 inches (50cms) by 16 inches (40cms). Each entry must be accompanied by a proforma detailing print titles, the name of the competitor and the name of the competition. (If a proforma is not available a sheet of paper with the above details clearly shown will suffice.)

ELECTRONIC IMAGE FILE PREPARATION

3. Electronic images should be prepared as follows:
3.1 File Format & Size
All images must be prepared in JPEG format with a maximum pixel dimension of 1400 (horizontal) x 1050 (vertical), (this can be done as shown below). The files will be projected using equipment calibrated using Adobe RGB1998 Colour Setting and Colour Temperature of 6500K.
3.2 Resizing and Saving JPEG images in Photoshop:
3.2.1 When you have completed processing your image select Image - Image Size.
3.2.2 Ensure the three lower boxes are all ticked.
3.2.3 Set the pixel dimensions to a maximum width of 1400 (landscape) or a maximum height of 1050 (portrait). When one dimension is changed the other dimension automatically changes to maintain image proportions. (If setting the width to 1400 pixels, the height remains greater than 1050 pixels, then reset the height to 1050 pixels even though the width reduces in size to less than 1400 pixels). Select OK.
3.2.4 With imaged resized, select File - Save As.
3.2.5 Set Save in. (Select directory in which you want your file saving.)
3.2.6 Enter image File name and select JPEG from Format drop down menu. Select Save
3.2.7 Set quality to 12 in JPEG Options dialogue box and select OK. Close file.

HOW TO PREPARE IMAGES FOR THE CLUB WEBSITE

1. The website, as presently constituted, will only accept a maximum 300 images.
It is hoped that all Club members will submit images to a personal portfolio.
Images should be prepared as follows.

2. Images must be in JPEG format.

3. When submitting images for use on the Club Website please show your name and the title of the image in the EXIF/XMP data area.

SETTING IMAGE TITLE AND AUTHOR EXIF INFORMATION IN WINDOWS

4. EXIF is a widely supported standard for storing information in image files. Windows Explorer allows you to set the title & author for an image as follows.

5 In Windows Explorer, right click an image file and select the Properties from the menu that appears.

6 The properties dialogue box will appear - make sure Tab is selected, and you can enter the title for the image, and the name of the author.

7 Click OK and that's all there is to it.

8. Images should, if possible, be submitted to the Webmaster as attachments to an e-mail and should be sent to
davy bolam. Please show image titles in the e-mail.

9. There is no need to alter your image size etc. because when an image is saved by the Webmaster to the Portfolio area of the website the size is automatically rendered down by the Photium.com system to a "default" size. After rendering, each image varies slightly in size. When images are placed in the opening slide-show they have to be re-sized by the Webmaster as all images must be exactly the same for the slide-show to function correctly.

10. If you prefer you can submit your images by means of a CD or a memory stick (returnable).

11. You MUST own the copyright to the image(s) you are submitting. Please confirm in your submission e-mail that you do own the copyright to the images you are using. The only copyright protection being applied at the moment ((c)2013) is at the bottom of each page of the website. You can apply your own copyright wording to your images.

12. The Webmaster retains the right to use (or not use) any images submitted.

13. If after 3/4 months you wish to refresh your Portfolio please get in touch with the Webmaster. It is worth remembering that the Portfolio is yours - the webmaster is only the agent!
