Club Meeting, 2nd Open Pdi Competition - Tuesday 25th February 2025.

On Tuesday, 25th February, Morpeth Camera Club welcomed guest judge Lynda Golightly from the Consett
& District Photographic Society. She came to evaluate the images entered in the second Open PDI (Projected
Digital Image) Competition. Lynda has been judging for approximately six years on the NCPF circuit and also
presents talks and showcases her work at camera clubs around the region.

Lynda began by noting the impressive submissions in the competition, stating that her evaluation would be
solely based on the images. The fifty-seven entries included portraiture, reflections, autumn landscapes, Asian
statuary, flora, wildlife, intentional camera movement, ice patterns, still life, seabirds, misty waterfalls, building
interiors, and colorful abstracts. Throughout the evening she gave advisory comments on clarity, cropping, care
with borders and colours, toning down distractions, using filters and when photographing flowers, for instance,
they must be perfect and have aesthetic appeal.

She went on to announce her Highly Commended images. Ashington Leisure Centre by Peter Downs, which was
intriguing, audacious and different. Pressed Geranium Flower by Paul Appleby, chosen for its translucence and
detail. Two Conversations by Glyn Trueman was chosen for its textures and linea structure, and Urban Patina by
Davy Bolam, a triptych admired for its variety of textures and sweeping shapes.

Fifth place was awarded to Sue Dawson with Bouquet; layers of soft flowers and lovely background which the
judge considered to be really special. In fourth place was Glyn Trueman with It’s Mine; a close-up image of two
wet, sandy, dogs sharing a stick, chosen for its detail and light in the eyes. Third place went to Natalie Wright
with It's My Nut; a Nuthatch on a tree, which the judge admired the subtle colour palette, gradation of colours
and good use of negative space. In second place was Peter Downs with Midnight Express; an abstract image
of a seemingly speeding train at night, which the judge admired for its vibrant colours, it evoked movement
and leapt off the screen.

             1st. Solitude.                    2nd. Midnight Express.                            3rd. It's My Nut.

The judge then announced the winner of the 2nd Open Pdi Competition to be Paul Kidd with his image entitled
Solitude. A glowing cabin which echoed the shape of the mountain in the background, bathed in gorgeous light
and reflected in water below, which the judge considered to be beautiful. Chairman, Peter Downs, then thanked
Lynda for the time and effort taken to assess all entries, after which refreshments were enjoyed.
