Club Meeting, 3 of a Kind Print Competition - Tuesday 15th April 2025.

On Tuesday 15th April, Morpeth Camera Club welcomed back guest judge Alan Porrett ARPS DPAGB EFIAP APAGB,
from Whitley Bay Photographic Society. Alan had been invited to comment on all entries and announce the results
of this seasons’ Three of a Kind Print Competitions. Members had been requested to submit three separate colour
prints and/or three separate monochrome prints illustrating a theme, to be viewed as a panel or set of three.

He began by stating that he always expected to see good images from Morpeth and on this occasion he was not
disappointed. Submitting three good prints that connect to each other is a discipline and he was looking for three
prints of similar contrast and texture, good composition, which retain scale and uniformity in tone.

Monochrome Print Section.
He began with the Monochrome section and announced his Highly Commended choices. A Bronze Studying Humans
by Paul Appleby, Treasures of Raby Castle by Sue Dawson, Wansbeck in Morpeth also by Sue, and Shags Head by
Dave Bisset. Fifth place was awarded to Dave Bisset with Time Passes; clock faces and a sundial, admired for their
contrast and detail. Fourth place went to Karin Jackson with Foam Patterns, chosen for their simple concept and
balance.

In third place was The Whitby Time Travellers by Roseanne Robinson, which showed Steam Punks with character
and personality. Second place went to Glyn Trueman with Infra Red Cragside which were admired for their drama
and detailed, sweeping leading lines. The winner of the Three of a Kind Competition, Mono section was announced
to be Davy Bolam with Bottle Impressions. With its multi layers, clever flipping, interesting shapes, it was balanced
and the judge said was cleverly thought out.

placed panels; In Fifth was Door Handles by Davy Bolam, which was admired for their different styles and designs
and vibrant variety of colours. Fourth place was awarded to Paul Appleby with Feisty Arctic Terns, chosen for their
coherent colours, bold shapes, feather detail and was well controlled.

Third place was awarded to Davy Bolam with Out of this World. A trio of abstract bubbles which the judge said was
creative, unusual and all three hung together and individually. In second place was Sue Dawson with Glass Workers.
It was admired as a documentary set, illustrating the aspects and skill of the process and had been handled well. The
winner of the Three of a Kind Competition, Colour Section was announced to be Glyn Trueman with Butterflies; studies
of three butterflies, the judge saying that they were near perfect, a stunning set and outstanding. The judge said that
this set of images had shone through from the very beginning of his assessment process.
