On Sunday 29th March 2015, Morpeth Camera Club travelled into the Scottish Borders to compete in the Borders
Digital Challenge. This is a projected digital image competition held annually at Hawick High School, Hawick, in
Roxburghshire. Each of the participating clubs are expected take their turn at running the event and this year the
task had fallen to Morebattle Camera Club.
They had secured the services of George Neilson ARPS, Scottish Photographic Federation President who had accepted
their invite to judge this open competition. Clubs from Galashiels, Kelso, Berwick, Morebattle, Liddesdale, Morpeth,
Hawick & Peebles had each submitted twelve images, ten to be marked and two to be held in reserve in case of a tie.
Every aspect of photography was reflected in this competition, colour, monochrome, still life, portraiture, wildlife,
landscape, seascapes, sport, architecture, travel. Throughout the afternoon the judge commented on every image,
asking the audience to really look at the content, to question what we liked & disliked and more importantly, why.
Composition, light and subject matter were all considered before each image was marked out of twenty.
When all the marks had been added together it was announced that Morpeth Camera Club were in first place and
Dave illingworth, Elaine illingworth and Davy Bolam were all present to watch Morpeth Camera Club chairman Steve
Mcdonald accept the silver " Reiver Cup " on behalf of the club.
No Morpeth image had scored less than 15 and two Morpeth images, "Is my Mummy in Here" by Dave Illingworth
and "Line Out" by John Thompson scored the maximum 20 marks, these together with images by Ian Cadwallender,
Elaine Illingworth, Steve Mcdonald, Mark Harrison, Glyn Trueman, Davy Bolam made up our winning entry.
This was an excellent win for Morpeth as we retained the trophy that we had won in 2014.
A buffet tea provided by the hosts rounded off a good afternoon and a big thanks to those who completed the 140
mile round trip to support the club.
