Club Meeting, 4 way Interclub Competition - Tuesday22nd February 2022.

This week, the second round of the annual Pro Lab 4-Way Interclub Challenge between Morpeth, Gateshead,
Gosforth & Cramlington Camera Clubs took place. The competition was hosted by Gosforth Camera Club, but
because they are not yet meeting physically, the judging session was streamed live to us at Morpeth Methodist
Church via Zoom. Each club had submitted five monochrome and five colour prints which would be marked
out of 30 by judge Dave Coates ARPS EFIAP/p ESFIAP APSA EPSA MPAGB Hon.PAGB from Northallerton CC.

Waterfalls, nesting and feeding seabirds, portraits, stark monochrome rural landscapes, detailed cityscapes,
soft pastel seascapes, ominous interiors, stylised flower heads and bluebell woodland, still life, and vibrantly
coloured abstracts, were among the prints shown. Copies of the forty prints entered were projected onto a
screen during which Dave offered his personal observations and constructive comments before announcing
his individual scores. The judge said that the scores were based on the quality of print, composition and
sharpness where relevant, and with such a variety of subjects to assess, one’s own preferences were bound
to come into play.

During his assessment, the judge suggested that leads in lines are good, but they must take the viewer
somewhere interesting, adding that compositionally the subject should not be too tight in the frame and that
in some instances there were issues with noise and depth of field, so points had been deducted accordingly.
At the end of the evening the scores for the Print Section were announced: Morpeth 247 marks, Cramlington
254 marks, Gateshead 258 marks and Gosforth 277 marks.

In this interclub competition the marks from round one, the Projected Digital Image Section which was held
on Tuesday 16th November, are added to this evening’s print scores to establish the trophy winner. This gave
a final result as follows, in fourth place was Morpeth CC, in third place was Gateshead CC, 2nd place went to
Cramlington CC, and the winner for this year, retaining the 4-Way Challenge Cup, was Gosforth CC.

Programme Sec Glyn Trueman then congratulated the winning club, thanking Gosforth for hosting the evening.
This evening provided us with a good opportunity to see some of the best photographic images produced by
other clubs. Thanks go out to Paul Appleby, Davy Bolam, Glyn Trueman, Carl Harper, Pat Wood, Peter Downs
and Sue Dawson whose prints made up the Morpeth entry.
