Club Meeting, Awards & Presentation Evening - Tuesday 7th May 2019.

Morpeth Camera Club's final meeting of the season was the Awards & Presentation evening held on Tuesday 7th May
2019 and opened with an Audio Visual presentation compiled by Davy Bolam which included members images which
had been entered into the four pdi club competitions throughout the year. As usual, an eclectic mix of subject matter
was shown, including a large variety of insects, butterflies, crickets and moths on brightly colour flowers; wildlife such
as squirrels, deer and hare together with colourful wild birds, waterfowl, puffins, gannets and cormorants. Street life,
sculptures, woodland art, religious icons, still life, rust, detritus, castles, glamour models, trains, boats and planes,
seascapes, rolling and mountainous landscapes were all enjoyed and served as a great reminder to club members of
how varied, imaginative and skilful at photography they have been this year. Chairman Mark Harrison thanked Davy
for creating a great A.V. which comprised of two hundred images taken by twenty eight club members.

The meeting continued with the presentations; over the year marks are given for each entry in the club competitions,
then collated together to find the winning authors. Together with announcing the results, Davy showed examples of
work from the top three photographers in each section, inviting them to talk about their images. This year twenty
nine different members submitted one hundred and thirty monochrome prints, one hundred and sixty colour prints,
and two hundred and twenty six digital images in club competitions.

In the Bates Cup for Landscape digital images, entries included stunning seascapes, sunsets,
mountain ranges and Lakeland scenes; in 3rd place was Paul Appleby, 2nd place Sophie Elliott Edwards and the Bates
Cup was awarded to the winner, Davy Bolam.

In the Browell Trophy for Natural History digital images, entries included Farne Island Guillemots,
wild birds, dandelion seedheads and wildlife. In 3rd place was Mark Harrison, 2nd place went to Alan Barker and the Browell
Trophy was awarded to the winner Karin Jackson.

The Colour Cup followed, an award given to the photographer who had accumulated the most marks
in Colour Print Competitions. Examples included cathedral interiors, abstract glass corridors, a seaside pier under storm clouds,
a silver birch forest, dereliction and still life. Sue Dawson came 3rd with 22 marks, 2nd place went to Glyn Trueman with 28
marks, and the winner of the Colour Cup was Davy Bolam with 42 marks.

The Pdi Shield followed an award given to the photographer who had accumulated the most marks in
Projected Digital Image competitions followed, together with examples of work which included puffins on the Farnes, sheep
among ferns, Dunstanburgh from the Embleton, a studio model, seascapes, gallery, museum and Minster interiors and the
lunar eclipse. Joint 3rd were Roseanne Robinson and Karin Jackson with 19 marks; 2nd place was awarded to Mark Harrison
with 20 marks and The Shield for Pdi worker of the year was awarded jointly to Glyn Truman and Davy Bolam with 22 marks.

The Camera Trophy,an award given to the photographer who had accumulated the most marks in
Monochrome Print Competitions came next; examples of work included a view from Calton Hill, Edinburgh, passengers on
a bus, a lone tree in Malham, a silhouetted girl, rocky shores, a girl in a doorway and converging branches from below. In
third place with 23 marks was Sue Dawson, 2nd place went to Mark Harrison with 24 marks and the winner of the Camera
Trophy was Davy Bolam with 27 marks.

The Photographers Plaque is awarded to the person who has accumulated the most marks overall fom All Competitions. Brilliant examples of the top three authors work were shown which included a detailed Hexham Abbey interior, a
colourful nuthatch, a Twizell woodland scene and an abstract scene taken in Moscow Underground. In 3rd place with 62 marks
was Sue Dawson, 2nd place went to Glyn Trueman with 71 marks and the Plaque for the Photographer of the year was deservedly awarded to Davy Bolam with 91 marks.

The evening concluded with a presentation of the Northern Counties Entry Portfolio for 2018, an opportunity for club members to
view images which had been accepted. An array of beautiful images submitted from club members in the northern area included
acceptances by Morpeth club members Steve McDonald, Sue Dawson and Glyn Trueman.

In his last duty as Chairman, Mark Harrison thanked Davy for his audio visual presentation of members’ work, for organising and
presenting the awards evening and to the members that had supported the competitions. A pooled supper together with much
conversation rounded off another great season of photography at the club.
