Club Meeting, Chairmans Challenge 1 - Tuesday 10th October 2023.

At Morpeth Camera Club on Tuesday 10th October, members met to see the images that had been submitted
for the first of the three Chairman’s’ Challenges given during his tenure. With ‘Wheels’ being the overall theme,
the first challenge was to provide images that depicted 'Two Wheels'. Club Chairman, Peter Downs LRPS, had
previously requested up to four images from each member, challenging them to use their eyes, imagination
and creative photography skills to produce something different.

This was an in-house challenge without a winner, and members were encouraged to comment on their images
and explain where and why they had been taken, and any creative properties that had been introduced. Sixteen
members accepted the challenge and their response showed a great variety on the theme; including deep treaded
wheels on a tractor, round windows resembling wheels, on a shiny motorbike, light aircraft, on big yellow diggers,
bicycles decorated with flowers and in varied stages of dilapidation, farm trailers and rustic oxcart wheels, which
contrasted with those on a shiny vintage car.

Images were taken in a wide variety of locations which included Wallington Hall, Eshott airfield, Settle, Ledbury,
North Berwick, France, Menorca, York Railway Museum and Seaton Delaval Hall. Combine harvester and railway,
graveyards provided interesting variations of wheels in varying stages of decay. Also included was an abandoned
supermarket trolley, wheels supporting a gun at Berwick Barracks and a canon at Collingwood Monument, a bright
orange bike used for advertising in Jersey Harbour, and a vintage German motorbike.

Together with pully wheels and a penny farthing at Beamish Museum, a shunter at Tanfield, Pithead wheels and
coal tubs at Woodhorn, an old RAF van, a twin-axle caravan, motorbike racing at Goodwood, Cauldron waggon
wheels at Seaham, and a monochrome set of trailer wheels, they made up a diverse selection of images that
fitted the theme. Friendly banter from the audience together with lighthearted discussion made for an interactive
evening at the club.

From the Sixty-three images submitted, we are indebted to the following members who have each allowed one image
to be displayed in this report. Images by authors in this order, Stephanie Robson, Stephen Perry, Karin Jackson, Keith
