Club Meeting, ‘Me and My Camera 2’ - Tuesday 4th March 2025.

On Tuesday 4th March Morpeth Camera Club were pleased to welcome back guest speaker Sue Hingley ARPS,
a member of Whickham Photographic Club, with her follow on presentation entitled ‘Me and My Camera 2’. Sue
emphasized the importance of the concept of 'Me' in photography. She highlighted that everyone is unique, and
their individual experiences influence how they view the world. This presentation reflected her perspective of life,
captured through her camera.

Monochrome images formed the larger part of this evening’s show as Sue explained that she likes to pull out
the structure of an image with no distractions of colour. She loves to include people in her work and illustrated
this with images taken at festivals, fairgrounds, miners’ galas, steam train re-enactments and pride parades.
We saw people in their everyday lives, in their environment, coming together, capturing a moment in time.

Interesting stories of visits to Suffolk, the Yorkshire Dales and Edinburgh followed with images of street
photography and architecture. Then, in complete contrast, Sue’s trip to Cambodia took on a more colourful,
vibrant feel; of shrines, basic transport, portraits of villagers capturing everyday moments in their lives.

A trip to Albania followed with candid shots of traders in the street, the Ottoman architecture, parks and lakes,
mountainous terrain, and portraits of friendly locals. She expressed that when she travels abroad, she endeavors
to capture the essence of the country, portraying it authentically for its own sake.

She concluded with a short pictorial cameo of her family life during the Covid lockdown; of preparation, food
deliveries and storage. The precautions taken and the worry of the unknown. All shot in monochrome, it was
a reflection of the highs and lows during a dark period of time.

Club Chairman Peter Downs thanked Sue on behalf of the club for an engaging and enjoyable evening that
offered a unique perspective. A selection of Sue's monochrome prints were then displayed, inviting discussion
and comments over refreshments.
