Club Report, 1st Open PDI Competition, Tuesday 28th October 2014.

  1st   2nd   3rd

On Tuesday 28th October 2014 Morpeth Camera Club welcomed Gerald Chamberlain DPAGB EFIAP, a member of Morton
Camera Club in Cumbria, to judge the First Open Projected Digital Image Competition of the season.
This is an open competition and provides club members with an opportunity to submit photographs without the constraints
of rules which apply in set subject competitions, and gives authors free rein to showcase their own style and preferences.
Gerald was impressed at the wide range of photographs submitted such as life studies, river scenes, ships on the Tyne,
wind blown sand dunes, birdlife, abstract vibrant Mondrian-style interiors, onion-domed churches, impressionist reflections
in water, autumn landscapes, grainy sculptures, ploughmen at work, studies of children in both colour and monochrome.
Several different images of the The Angel of the North featured and many these had been taken on Camera Club walks,
authors choosing different viewpoints including evening light at sunset and shape and form in abstract images.
Throughout his commentary Gerald applauded the unusual filter effects, good use of colour, sharp detail and good balance
but stressed the importance of a focal point and how, by adding a figure it can add perspective, the use of good cropping,
to avoid distracting white areas and with the use of vignettes, a subject can be contained more successfully within the scene.
After viewing and commenting on all sixty nine images Gerald announced the following images as his award winners -

Top Five

1. You're looking for Who by Paul Saint.
2. The Beauty of Time by Ian Cadwallender.
3. Above the Snow by Brian Morris.
4. 1959 Chrysler by Ian Cadwallender.
5. Big Foot by Glyn Trueman.
