Club Meeting, 1st Open Print Competition - Tuesday 4th November 2025.
On Tuesday 4th November 2025, Morpeth Camera Club welcomed photographic judge Alan Porrett ARPS DPAGB EFIAP
APAGB from Whitley Bay Photographic Society to comment upon and appraise the entries in the clubs’ First Open Print
Competition. Open competitions have no constraints and one is able to showcase one’s preferred genre of photography.
Alan opened the evening by saying that he always predicted a quality entry of prints and again he was not disappointed.
In the Monochrome section we saw a wide variety of subjects which included dramatic cloudscapes, Beamish and street
portraits, a seaside pier, atmospheric vaults, and rock formations. The judge went on to announce his Highly Commended
awards; to Roseanne Robinson with At the Manor House, to Davy Bolam with Driving Wheel Detail, Sue Dawson with
Grandma’s Summer House and Glyn Trueman for City Library Superstructure.
In fifth place was Karin Jackson with Keep Out which was considered to be well seen, unusual and interesting. Fourth
place went to Sue Dawson with Bloom, chosen for the flower detail and good lighting. Third place went to Glyn Trueman
with Preparing to Sew, an interesting re-enactment portrait which was admired for its natural with subdued lighting. In
Second Place with The Wild Wood was Davy Bolam, a flipped image, revealing interesting tree features which the judge
described as a fascinating creation. He then went on to announce the winner of the First Open Print Competition (Mono)
to be Glyn Trueman with his image entitled About to Leave the Station. A steam locomotion billowing steam which the
judge considered to be near to perfection.
