Club Meeting, Members Evening - Tuesday 12th September 2023.
On Tuesday 12th September Morpeth Camera Club held their traditional early season Members’ Evening where members,
new and old, were invited to show selections of their recent images, taken over the summer break, that they would like
to share with other members of the club.
Twelve members took part and first up was Dave Bisset, whose images were based mainly on the clubs’ summer walks
which included sculptures on the Amble Bord Waalk, Blyth’s Spirit of the Staithes, woodland scenes and flower heads.
Dave Moore’s contribution included studies of orchids, berries, a colourful abstract inverted rose, thistles and the Flying
Scotsman. Pat Wood followed with the ruin of Bothal Old Mill, an Alnmouth back street, Eshott Airfield motorbikes, the
Cresswell Pele Tower garden, destruction at Lemmington Woods and Sandy Bay erosion.

Graham Sorrie featured images taken with his phone of a holiday in Spain. With scenes of the colourful Royal Alcazar in
Seville, views and interiors of the Alhambra Palace, Grenada and of Cordoba’s stunning Mosque-Cathedral. Jeremy Cooper
was next with images of visits to Seaton Delaval, Alnmouth sailing regatta, artworks at Warkworth Castle, Howick Gardens
and colourful flower studies. Following on, Glyn Trueman provided us with beautiful macro images of insects, including the
Jumping Spider, Crane Fly, Damsel Fly, Pond Skaters, and a variety of colourful butterflies.

Peter Downs came next with his abstract images of Blyth Quay reflections, leaves, grasses, ornamental grasses, CCTV
cameras and woodland scenes using intentional camera movement. An Audio Visual (AV) piece by Paul Appleby on his
visit to Scarborough came next. With typical images of the seaside; stalls selling candy floss, rock, fish and chips and
beach balls. Guest houses, people on deckchairs, the bandstand and panorama shots of the bay were all included. Eric
Anderson, with his first contribution to members' evening, gave us an eclectic group of images, including wind turbines
in the mist, a Bowness passenger ferry, sand patterns at Cresswell, a light aircraft at Eshott Airfield and a Blyth sunset.

John Barnes who photographs for the English Heritage archives, provided us with scenes of Belsay Hall, Knights jousting,
a WWII re-enactment with demonstrations of combat techniques, actors in period costumes and a laughing horse. Brian
Morris has a similar role with English Heritage and he showed images of Walkworth Castle falconry, cleaners at off-season
Brinkburn Priory, storytellers and the Gadgy at Morpeths’ Gathering. Davy Bolam concluded the presentations with his AV
entitled Dull Day. Proving that there is always something to photograph whatever the weather, his Av consisted of simple
images taken at the beach; of coiled or knotted rope and rusty chains entangled with seaweed. His original images were
each followed by stylised versions which transformed them into highly coloured ethereal images.

Club Chairman Peter Downs thanked everyone who took part, and much conversation followed over refreshments to close
a varied and interesting club meeting.
