Club Meeting, Members Practical Evening - Tuesday 27th February 2024.
On Tuesday 27th February Morpeth Camera Club tried something a little different by holding a practical evening that
allowed members to capture different types of images using their cameras and mobile phones. Several workstations
were set up around the room offering various types of still-life/ table-top photography.

A variety of lighting systems, light boxes, light tents, backcloths, and backgrounds were positioned so they would not
affect each other and members were free to move around the room trying the different set-ups. An amazing array of
objects were made available to photograph including old bottles, bubbles, glasses, old cameras, seashells, pencils, old
cans, prisms, and flowers.

Throughout the evening there were many conversations as members discovered the capabilities of their cameras, how
flash, backlight, sidelight, and light from above can all affect your subject to both enhance or decrease shadows. Depth
of field, aperture, and Iso settings were also considered. Tripods were used to good effect by some, whilst it was also
argued that tripods can hinder composition and stop you from exploring all angles.

For many members, this was a first attempt at this genre of photography but a very relaxed and successful evening
ensued, with everyone helping each other to achieve some great results. Club Chairman Peter Downs thanked Glyn
Trueman and Davy Bolam for the huge amount of work in setting up and providing the equipment and props, before
the evening concluded with refreshments. Thank you to David Moore, Jeremy Cooper, David Atkinson, Davy Bolam,
Brian Morris, Roseanne Robinson, Sue Dawson, Glyn Trueman, Peter Downs, and Gordon Hine who supplied images
taken on the evening, for this report.
