Summer Walk Report   2 - St John the Baptist Church, Annitsford, 29th May 2012.

The second event on the Morpeth Camera Club Summer Walks Programme was held on Tuesday 29th May
when the club visited St John the Baptist RC Church, Annitsford, Cramlington.
The cool interior of the grade 2 listed building, which was built in 1906, provided a welcome refuge on a
warm evening.
The ornate wood carvings of the altar and pulpit drew the first attention, followed by the " Stations of the Cross "
a feature found in all catholic churches that commemorates fourteen key events on the day of Christ's crucifixion.
These sculpted, hand painted figures, and all aspects of the church interior were photographed by club members.
Moving outside to the church grounds, a walk around the churchyard led us to a simple grave that marked the burial
place of one of Annitsford's most famous sons, the world renowned opera singer Owen Brannigan.
An excellent turn out of fifteen members enjoyed a slightly different photographic evening and our thanks go to Vince
Rooker and Father Richard Harriott for their assistance on this visit.
