On Sunday 18th November it was the turn of Amble Photographic Group to host the Annual Northern Counties
Photographic Federation 7 Way Interclub PDI Knockout Competition. The seven clubs that make up the Northern
Area Group are expected to take part and in this event each club submits twenty digital images, fifteen to be shown
at any one time, together with five substitutes that may be used at each clubs discretion to either replace any low
scoring images in the previous round or to benefit from the judges leaning to certain subjects. These images are
viewed and scored live by a panel of three judges that this year consisted of Alan Porret ARPS DPAGB EFIAP APAGB,
David Ord and Gerry Adcock ARPS, who each gave a mark out of five using an automatic scoring machine which then
provided an immediate total for each projected image.

A good afternoon of competition was anticipated but this was dulled as we were informed that Wooler had not put
an entry in and that as there were now only six clubs, all clubs would enter the first round and that the three highest
scorers would go straight to the "Trophy Final" and the remaining three clubs would compete in the "Plate" Competition.

This meant that there was no semi final and that clubs would only have one opportunity to change their images which
defeated the whole point of the exercise and changed the composition of the contest. Club competition secretaries had
not been consulted about this change and were left with no choice. Missing out a round resulted in a very short event
where there were also other questionable aspects. This also gave the audience less opportunity to enjoy the images
and removed any excitement or tension that a "knockout" should generate.

The Plate Final was won by Morpeth with 166 marks followed by Cambois with 164 marks and Blyth with 147 marks.
In the Trophy Final there was a tie for first place with Amble and Ashington on 172 marks and Alnwick on 3rd with 170
marks. *(The rules state that in the event of a tie it will then be decided on countback with the highest scores, both
clubs also had one image that scored the maximum mark of fifteen so it then went to images that scored 14 marks
and this led to the hosts being awarded the trophy).

Competition sec Davy Bolam collected the "Plate Trophy" on behalf of Morpeth Camera Club and congratulations go to
Amble Photographic Group on their success, where a raffle and an excellent buffet tea supplied by the hosts rounded
off the afternoon.
