Club Meeting, Members Practical Evening - Tuesday 5th November 2024.

On Tuesday 5th November, Morpeth Camera Club held a still-life workshop involving the use of classic and informal
flower arrangements, foliage, glass bottles, nuts and pine cones. Several workstations had been set up around the
room, each offering various types of still-life and tabletop photography using either their cameras or mobile phones.
A variety of lighting systems, light boxes, backcloths and backgrounds were positioned so that they would not affect
each other and members were free to move around the room trying the different set-ups.

Throughout the evening there were many conversations as members discovered the capabilities of their cameras,
how flash, backlight, sidelight and light from above can all affect the subject to both enhance or decrease shadows.
Depth of field, aperture and Iso settings were also considered. It was found that although tripods were used to good
effect by some, it was also argued that tripods can hinder composition and restricts one from exploring all angles.

For many members, this was their first attempt at this genre of photography, but the evening turned out to be both
relaxed and successful, with everyone supporting each other to achieve great results. We would like to extend our
gratitude to Glyn Trueman for providing props, light boxes, and lighting and to the club members who rearranged
the room into a suitable layout. Special thanks also go to the ladies of the club for their imaginative and skillful
arrangements of the exquisite floral displays.

Thanks go to Sue Dawson, Davy Bolam, Stephanie Robson, Malcolm Booth, Dave Moore, Dave Bisset, Jeremy Cooper,
Pat Wood, Ursula Pearce and Peter Downs who supplied images taken on the evening for this report.
