Club Meeting - Tuesday 5th May 2026

On Tuesday, 5th May 2026, the Camera Club concluded their regular meetings for the 2025/2026 season with their annual awards and presentation evening. This event celebrates the photographic work of its members. Glyn Trueman, the clubs’ Print Competition Secretary opened the evening with a slide show of members’ images which had been used in competitions and members’ evenings throughout the year. These included portraiture, sport, re-enactment scenes, candid street shots, travel, transport, monuments/ statues, land and seascapes, night skies and abstract creations. Glyn followed on with a photographic tribute to Davy Bolam, a long standing, much respected member of the club, who sadly passed away in March; images which outlined his time at the club and highlighting his photographic, artistry and editing skills. Dramatic landscapes and sunsets, haunting Intentional Camera Movement images, vibrant pattern pictures produced by smoke, modern architecture and still life were among his exceptional images. Following on, Glyn projected one of Davy’s Audio-Visual creations. Put together in 2008 this showed images of Morpeth back in time; capturing the Wansbeck, its Raft race and also in the 1968 flood. We enjoyed seeing old shops and cars of the time in Bridge Street, he had captured Smailes’ fire, processions of pipers and horses, Olivers Mill aflame, views of the old bus station and some of the earliest aerial views of the whole town. Then on the Awards Ceremony where Glyn explained the points system used to establish the winners of each trophy. The top images in each category were then projected followed by the announcement of the winner. Club Chairman Jeremy Cooper presented each winner with their trophy. The Browell Trophy, awarded to the winner of the Natural History projected image competition was presented to Paul Appleby with ‘Artic Tern Feeding Chick’. The Bates Cup, awarded for the best Landscape image was awarded to Davy Bolam with ‘Sand, Sea and Sky’. This cup was proudly accepted by Davy’s daughter Hannah. The Vince Rooker Plate, for the best Three of a Kind panel was awarded to Glyn Trueman with ‘Lloyds Building Abstracts’. The Camera Trophy, awarded to the Monochrome Print Worker of the Year was presented to Glyn Trueman. The Colour Cup, awarded to the Colour Print Worker of the Year, was presented to Sue Dawson. The Shield for The Photographic Digital Image Worker of the Year was awarded to Glyn Trueman. Glyn also received The Photographers Plaque which is awarded to the Photographer of the Year. As is usual for the final meeting, a pooled buffet supper was enjoyed, bringing another successful season of photography to a close. After a short break a programme of informal summer walks to local places of interest will be announced and advertised through the club website, newsletter and the media. Steph
