Club Meeting "let Your Imagination Run Free"Tuesday 10th Marc

On Tuesday 10th March Morpeth Camera Club welcomed one of their own, our Programme Secretary, Peter Downs LRPS. Peter had set a challenge to its members on the theme of ‘Let your Imaginations Go Free.’ Abstract photographic art is Peter’s preferred genre and his challenge was for members to produce images which were out of the ordinary. This was to be an open, non-competitive fun exercise where members could let their imaginations run riot. Twelve members took on the challenge entering 120 images.
Among the subjects used were bubbles, a church interior, wall art, lichen, sunlit clouds, a glass table weight, lights shining through rain splatter windows, sheep, rhubarb cloches, wooden shutters, Newcastle Street life, stacked steel chairs and modern architecture. We enjoyed seeing creations using a jazzy effect, texture, the use of polar co-ordinates, flipping, high contrast, sketch effect, vibrancy, blur, and layers.

Although subtle changes had been made to foliage, woodland and seascapes, some authors chose to use more powerful creative tools; Nik effects, glow and storm effects, cloning, mural filters, multi layering, luminosity, liquifying and blend modes.

Stark abstract creations, astronomical wonders, ghostly forest scenes, colourful abstracts, beach strata which had been transformed into a silk scarf, and a Henry Moore sculpture into a moonrise, were among the entries. One member decided to create a theme to tell a story. Using a combination of cooking fat, water and washing up liquid, he had illustrated, through bubble patterns, a dystopian future.
Peter concluded the evening by humourously noting that if this evening’s images were presented to a photographic judge, he would find them worrying.
Club Chairman Jeremy Cooper thanked all who took part in the evening and to Peter for
leading such a fun challenge, after which refreshments were served.
