Summer Walk, Alnmouth Beach - Tuesday 21st August 2018.

On Tuesday 21st August 2018 the Morpeth Camera Club Summer Walks Programme came to a close with a coastal
walk at Alnmouth. Meeting in the dunes car park, the group walked down past the many WWII anti tank blocks and
out onto the beach of Alnmouth Bay, with distant views of Coquet Island. The outgoing tide left a huge expanse of
wet sand and members were soon looking for images as we headed north on a warm but cloudy evening.

A variety of subjects soon caught the eye including the coloured Lions Mane jellyfish, small blue jellyfish and beautiful
lime green seaweed on the rocks. The evening sunshine finally appeared and after about a mile we reached a wooden
groyne where the sandy beach changes to a large outcrop called Marden Rocks. When the tide is out, this boulder strewn
expanse with hundreds of rockpools is a feeding area for many sea birds including oyster catcher, turnstone, curlew and
sanderling.

Our walk continued to Fluke Hole, a small inlet below Foxton Hall, which is the home of Alnmouth Golf club. Here the
group decided to retrace their steps along the shoreline rather than climb up to the clifftop footpath. Pausing for a chat
we explored a limestone pavement just below the cliff before continuing back along the beach. Returning to our start
point a last few images were taken of the moon rising over the calm water of the bay to end an enjoyable evening at
an interesting location.
I would like to thank those who attended and supported the Eight Summer Evening Walks, I hope you enjoyed them
and I look forward to seeing everyones images.
Davy Bolam.
