Club Meeting, NCFP Annual Competitions Review - Tuesday 21st January 2025.

On Tuesday 21st January Morpeth Camera Club met to view recorded presentations of different sections of the Northern
Counties Photographic Federation, (NCPF) 2024 Annual Competitions. The NCPF serves around fifty clubs across the North
of England, covering the counties of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham, Cleveland and Cumbria, so it was an ideal
opportunity to view some of the best work produced by club members in the federation.

The first presentation showcased PDI portfolios selected by three judges: John Tillotson, Glen Lawson, and Dave Best.
After the judging of the annual awards competition, each selector chose twenty digital images that they wished to discuss.
John Tillotson began by sharing his comments and observations on his selections, which included abstract images of neon
bubbles, an angular metal staircase, sports photography, steam trains, and beautifully captured landscapes and cityscapes.
Next, Glen Lawson shared his perspective on various subjects, including people, street photography, and creative and
abstract images. He particularly focused on monochrome photography, offering advice on lighting and composition. Dave
Best concluded the discussions with his insights on still life, portraiture, fashion, and sports photography. He emphasized
the importance of clean lines and depth in an image.

The Alliance selectors choose images to represent the NCPF in the Federation Print Competition. Richard Spiers, Arjun
Nambiar, and Jim Welsh selected the best colour prints, monochrome prints, and nature prints, respectively. This second
presentation was a delight to watch, featuring an engaging soundtrack and showcasing breathtaking landscapes, stunning
wildlife, intricate architecture, and dramatic portraits.

The final presentation of the evening showcased the award winners from three print competitions: Beginners Prints,
Colour Prints, and Monochrome Prints. All prints displayed received at least a "Highly Commended" rating. Each year,
clubs from across the region are invited to participate in the two main sections of the NCPF Annual Competitions for
Prints and Projected Digital Images. Awards were given for various categories, including Best Beginners Print, Best
Natural History Print, Best Creative Colour Print, Best Colour Landscape Print, Best Sports Print, and Best Monochrome
Print, culminating with the award for Best Overall Print. Two further presentations will be shown at a later date, to
cover the awards in the Digital Image sections of the competition.
