Summer Walk, Newbiggin by the Sea - Wednesday 14th August 2024.

Walk number Six on Morpeth Camera Club's summer programme took place on Wednesday 14th August 2024,
as we visited Newbiggin by the Sea. Fourteen members gathered in the Church Point car park for our informal
walk around the coastal town. Originally moved to accommodate a club visit to the RNLI Lifeboat Station, plans
had to change again at short notice when the RNLI cancelled our visit due to operational requirements.

Rather than a formal guided tour, this walk was a go-as-you-please wander, and everyone was soon spread out
looking for images. Several took advantage of the warm evening light to explore the nearby St Bartholomew's
Church and the old weather-beaten gravestones that surround it, while others walked past the maritime centre
and along the promenade, taking them past the lifeboat station, fishing boats and old tractors in the boatyard.

The receding tide had left the bay exposed, and images were found in the rock pools, sand, shells, and seaweed.
Seabirds feeding on the tideline were another possible subject to test our skills. One of the main attractions in
the bay area is the famous offshore sculpture 'Couple' by Sean Henry, nicknamed 'Ebb & Flow' by locals, with a
smaller version of 'The Couple' in a small park on the promenade.

After a good photography session, members regrouped on the promenade to sit and enjoy local Fish & Chips.
As the light began to fade we made our way back to the start point to conclude a pleasant evening. Thank you
to everyone who attended. Looking forward to seeing images from all the walks in the new season of regular
club meetings in the Morpeth Methodist Church every Tuesday evening starting in September.
