4 Way Interclub Competition at Gateshead (Part 1) - Thursday 22nd November 2018.

On Thursday 22nd November, It was Gateshead Camera Club's turn to host the Annual 4 Way Interclub Competition
at St Helens Church Hall, Belle Vue Bank, Gateshead. In this contest Morpeth, Cramlington, Gateshead and Gosforth
Camera Clubs had each submitted ten digital images on any subject. Alan McCormick ARPS from Hexham & District
Photographic Society had been invited to view and comment on all images before giving a mark out of thirty.

The judge then described each image as it appeared on the screen, stating what the subject matter had meant to him
before giving appropriate comments and on occasion suggesting things that may be done to improve the picture. Alan
stated that although he had expected a high standard of work in an Interclub Competition, even he had been surprised
with the number of stunning natural history images among the forty entries, selecting 'Stonechat' by Peter Fawcett of
Gosforth Camera Club, as his top image gaining the maximum thirty marks. At the end of the evening the totals were
as follows -
                    Gosforth Camera Club....................268 marks.
                    Morpeth Camera Club....................262 marks.
                    Gateshead Camera Club................255 marks.
                    Cramlington Camera Club.............248 marks.

On a very wet night in Gateshead this was poorly attended event with no one from Cramlington and only myself from
Morpeth. A good selection of images with consistent marking led to an enjoyable evening that was followed by a buffet
supper supplied by the hosts. As this was Part One of a Two Part Competition we now look forward to February 2019
when the clubs meet again for the second leg where the Colour and Monochrome Print section entries will be judged.
The marks from both competitions are then added together to find the overall winners who will receive the 4 Way Trophy.
