Club Meeting, 5 Members 15 Minutes - Tuesday 4th October 2022.

Five Members, Fifteen Minutes was the theme of Morpeth Camera Clubs meeting on 4th October. Five members
were invited to present to the audience their images on any subject they chose. It was a good opportunity for
participants to showcase their interests, without the restraints of a theme.

First on was Roseanne Robinson with ‘Tour de Mont Blanc,’ a trek she had taken part in this summer. The gruelling
route took in areas of France, Switzerland and Italy and we saw breath-taking images of the Alps, its deep valleys,
remote refuges, and the steep rugged pathways on the way. The ringing of bells from grazing cattle in the distance
told them that they were approaching Switzerland, with its pretty villages, glaciers and alpine flowers. Roseanne
captured the beauty and vastness of the region with information and anecdotes along the way.

John Barnes continued, with ‘Belsay Awakes.’ Being a volunteer photographer at the hall, John, who was charged
with documenting each stage of its renovation, took us on a photographic tour, showing us the work that been
undertaken. There were before and after shots of the hall and stairways, the library, servant’s quarters, and the
renovation of the roof. Interesting anecdotes regarding the ‘ghost’, the concealed chimney sweep cupboard, and
the male and female servants’ stairways were included in Johns interesting presentation.

A relatively new member, David Moore followed on with ‘The Happy Snapper’. His images took us to a dude ranch
in Wyoming, cattle ranch corralling in Montana, of Washington DC, Arlington Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial and
Smithsonian Museum. Images of the Cody Stampede, the South Dakota Badlands, led on to Yellowstone National
Park with its wildlife, geysers, springs and sulphur pools. Rugged Andorran landscapes, Krakow’s street scenes &
Croatian sunsets contrasted with local coastal and rural scenes, taken whilst on the clubs summer walks.

Graham Sorrie continued with images taken on a Skye photographic workshop on Highlands and Eagles. Taking
us on a tour of the island, his stunning images included the Allt Dearg Mor Waterfall, the Fairy Pools, Loch Fada,
the Elgol highland cattle, Tallister Bay, and sunrises taken from The Quiraing. He concluded with images of eagles
in flight, dolphins and seals in the Sound of Raasay, and the warm glow of sunset on the Old Man of Storr and
Neist Point Lighthouse.

John Thompson concluded the evening by explaining his quest to create the perfect monochrome image. John
stated that there are many ways to convert a colour picture into a good black and white image using software,
but that this comes with disadvantages in consistency, especially when creating a panel. His aim was to create
a good image 'in camera' and he went on to illustrate his work using his infra red camera, which he said was
exciting at first but he now wanted to explore different routes. One way using his current camera was to shoot
monochrome jpegs where he could immediately see his results. His dramatic prints of cloudscapes over Blyth
beach huts, sweeping clouds over Amble and delicate receding clouds over Seaton Sluice confirmed to the
audience that he had achieved his goal.

Co Chair, Sue Dawson thanked the presenters who had provided vibrant foreign and local scenes, local history
and technical expertise, after which refreshments were served.
