Summer Walk 1, Alnmouth Circular - Tuesday 6th June 2023.
The Morpeth Camera Club Summer Walks Programme started on Tuesday 6th June with a visit to the coastal village
of Alnmouth. These informal meetings enable members to keep in contact over the summer break, get some exercise
and enjoy our photography. Leaving our vehicles in the beach car park the group headed down to the Alnmouth Village
Golf Club, the oldest nine hole links course in the country, passing the club house on Marine Road we continued up
onto Northumberland Street.

The first part of the evening was to explore the buildings, alleyways and courtyards on and off the village's main street,
these included the Schooner Hotel, a coaching inn built in the 1600's reputed to be the most haunted hotel in Britain,
St John the Baptist Parish Church and grounds, the wonderfully named Crow's Nest Lane and pockets of hidden colour
in quiet corners and gardens around Prospect Place.

After a brief look in the grounds of the Friary of St Francis, we continued to the war memorial and turned west down
to the Duchess bridge, a four arch stone bridge built in 1864 over the River Aln. At this point we joined 'Lovers Walk',
a quiet footpath that runs south along the riverside. This path offers panoramic views over the river and saltmarshes
to the west, and of Alnmouth's famous street of colourfully painted houses, Lovaine Terrace, above us to the east.

The boatyard and Ferryman's Hut were the next stop as the falling tide in the estuary left the many colourful marine
craft high and dry on the wet sand. Images of boats, buoys, ropes, chains, driftwood and reflections in the water were
all captured at this picturesque location that is loved by artists and photographers. Moving on the group followed the
course of the river round to the river mouth with stunning views over Alnmouth Bay. A short walk north along the beach
led us back to our start point to complete an excellent circular evening wander. Thank you to those who attended.
