Club Meeting, Members Audio Visual Evening - Tuesday 23rd January 2024.

On Tuesday 23rd January Morpeth Camera Club held their Members’ Audio Visual (Av) evening. This is an opportunity
to present images which would maybe never have been seen before and to incorporate them into an Av, accompanied
by music. Eight members took part in the evening which covered a wide range of subject matter.

John Thompson opened the evening with a nostalgic showing of the first Av he had produced 25 years ago where the
images had been originally taken on slide film, and had then been scanned for this presentation. Entitled ‘Those Blue
Remembered Hills ’ it was centred upon the Cheviots; views of sweeping cloudscapes, snow laden hills, sparkling snow
drift patterns, glowing fence lines at sundown, through the seasons to russet bracken and purple heather. John had
used ethereal music to accompany his set.

David Moore followed with ‘Bicycles.’ We saw bicycles in various stages of repair, rusty, abandoned, in pieces, together
with rows of rental bikes, some mounted on cars, carved in stone, and shots of riders taking part in races. With bell
and saddle detail shot and set to jaunty music, it made for a very upbeat Av.

Dave Atkinson was next with a poignant piece entitled, ‘Pilgrimage to Uncles War Grave.’ Shots taken when passing
through Normandy villages on his motorbike, he included old images of these bomb damaged villages from the past.
Travelling to War Grave cemeteries, big guns at Pegasus Bridge, the remains of the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches,
past the magnificent Bayeux Cathedral and finally to the immaculate Tilly sur Seulle Cemetery where his uncle had
been laid to rest.

Following on was Davy Bolam with ‘3 is a Magic Number.’ He displayed a series of vibrantly coloured Triptychs of
abstracts, pipes, rocks, flowers, birds, bubbles, clouds, graffiti, leaves, bottles, rust, smoke patterns and modern
architecture. All accompanied by upbeat energetic music, the vibrancy was a feast for the eyes.

Paul Appleby was next with ‘Frigiliana’; a Moorish village in Andalucía, Spain. It showed the pristine white houses,
cobbles, colourful doors, courtyards, patios and window boxes full of flowers, tiled steps leading ever upward, wall
art, mosaics and netted window detail. Accompanied by traditional guitar music, it transported the audience to this
lovely Andalucian village.

‘Halcyon Blue’ by Martin Goble showed lovely images of beaches at low tide, groynes, sand patterns, sweeping
seascapes with big skies, lighthouses, grasses bent in the breeze, old churches, streams, grazing meadows and
autumn leaves. A depiction of peace and calm came through, with Martin providing his own gentle accompaniment.

Stephanie Robson followed with ‘The Secret Bunker.’ She ‘walked’ us through a restored Scottish Cold War bunker
which was intended to be used in the event of a nuclear war. Information on early warning systems, radar, weapons
and military equipment, mapping rooms, charts and accommodation were all included and accompanied by 1960’s
protest music.

Glyn Trueman was next with ‘North Northumberland Outings.’ His Av included Boulmer beach’s, its rocks and seaweed,
the ancient standing Duddo Stones and Routin Linn, Howick Hall gardens, St Cuthbert’s Cave, The Long Nanny burn
on Beadnell Bay and included shore birds, vibrant purple poppies, fungi, insects and butterflies. With a Northumbrian
musical accompaniment, Glyn successfully showcased our county at its best.

Paul Appleby returned with a complete contrast to Frigiliana; being ‘Calpe’ in the Costa Blanca with its high rise hotels,
resorts, fishing boats, markets and salt flats with wading birds which was all set to a traditional spanish flamenco guitar
accompaniment.

Martin Goble also returned with ‘Glass City’; of images taken with his iphone, of reflective glass modern architecture,
glass orbs and steel installations. His images captured the sharp linear, abstract qualities of the architecture of the
cities he has visited. This was also accompanied by his own musical composition.

Davy Bolams second A.v featured a selection of 'snapshots’ taken while on his Summer Walk Programme where many
images included club members. He covered his eight walks; starting at Alnmouth, followed by Ambles’ Bord Waalk’ of
public sculptures, Meggie’s Burn in Blyth, The Machine Meet in Eshott, featuring classic cars, Creswell’s Pele Tower and
walled gardens, Rothley’s Greenleighton Quarry, his Newbiggin to Sandy Bay walk and finishing on Blyth Quayside.

John Thompson followed with coverage of the first Tour de France in the UK, with Images of huge crowds, emergency
service vehicles, a classic car parade and advertising floats, support crews and police escort which eventually led to
the actual riders who passed by in a flash.

Glyn Trueman concluded the evening with his Av covering the Durham Coast. Views of a misty Seaham beach, walkers
in search of sea glass, of the Hall with its garden sculptures, views from the pier of sea birds and crashing waves and
then to the rejuvenated Blast Beach with its giant rocks, driftwood and cliffs.

Club Chairman, Peter Downs, thanked Glyn for organising a great evening of Audio Visual work and to members for
providing a great variety of subject matter, after which refreshments were enjoyed.
