Club Meeting, Chairmans Challenge 2 - Tuesday 13th February 2024.

On Tuesday 13th February 2024, Morpeth Camera Club members met to view entries that had been submitted
for the second of the three Chairman’s’ Challenges given during his tenure. With ‘Wheels’ being the overall theme,
this challenge was for members to submit up to four images that depicted 'Four Wheels'. Chairman, Peter Downs
stated that he had hoped that by using their imagination and creative photography skills, members would produce
something different that fitted the criteria and that he was not disappointed.

This was an in-house challenge without a winner, and members were encouraged to comment on their images
and explain where and why they had been taken, and any creative process that had been introduced. Fourteen
members accepted the challenge and their response showed a great variety on the theme; including excavator
tyres, large wooden cartwheels used as a fence, several images of bicycle wheels at unusual locations, boat trailer
wheels, vintage motorcycle wheels and wheels and tyres from combine harvesters.

Images were taken in a wide variety of locations which included rusty wheels at Tanfield Railway, Four Pit winding
wheels at Woodhorn Colliery Museum, a Vintage Tractor, a Field Gun and a horsedrawn Bakers Cart at Beamish
Museum. Further afield, a Portuguese war cannon was taken at Edinburgh, images from the Malaga Car Museum,
The "Cementerio de Trenes" at Uyuni, Bolivia and at the Wolsztyn Steam Railway in Poland, all provided many very
interesting variations of sets of 'Four Wheels'.

Closer to home, several authors had taken images of model vehicles and colourful toy cars. Wheels on an assisted
walking aid, Wheely bin wheels, a car wheel montage, AI-generated wheels, and an artistic interpretation of pully
wheels, all showed great creativity. Friendly banter from the audience together with lighthearted discussion made
for an interactive evening at the club. Thank you to everyone who supported the challenge.

From the Fifty-Four images submitted, we are indebted to the following members who have allowed images to be
displayed in this report. Stephanie Robson, Karin Jackson, Keith Pratt, Pat Wood, Glyn Trueman, Paul Appleby, Sue
Dawson, David Moore, Dave Bisset, Eric Anderson, Jeremy Cooper, Roseanne Robinson, Davy Bolam & Peter Downs.
