Summer Walk No 1, Whitley Bay Seafront - Tuesday 17th June 2025.
During the summer break, Morpeth Camera Club organises a series of informal walks and visits to local
places of interest. These events provide members with the opportunity to refine their photography skills,
stay connected, and share tips and ideas.
On Tuesday 17th June 2025, members gathered at the large Brierdene car park at the north end of Whitley
Bay, intending to explore the beach and seafront area. Crossing the stone footbridge over the Brierdene
Burn, we dropped down to the promenade and had our first views of the refurbished St Mary's Lighthouse.
Heading south on the extensive walkway, the warm summer evening saw many people running, cycling,
roller skating and dog walking. The incoming tide left just a small section of beach for families to enjoy a
traditional picnic and a paddle, whilst local youngsters enjoyed the thrills and spills racing around the skate
park.
The coordinated colours of the shelters, railings, and walkways created striking photographic opportunities,
enhancing the Art Deco aesthetic of the area. We captured images of the Panama Swimming Club building,
the Coronation Fountain, and various street art installations before taking a well-deserved break outside the
iconic Spanish City dome. After exploring this area, the group returned to our starting point along the link's
footpath above the promenade, concluding an enjoyable coastal walk.
