Summer Walk No 5, Low Hauxley - Tuesday 19th August 2025.

On the evening of Tuesday, August 19th 2025, a small group of members met at Beacon Hill Car Park near
the village of Low Hauxley for a planned walk along Hauxley Beach at low tide, despite the weather being
somewhat uncertain.

We started by climbing to the top of the sand dunes behind the car park, where we enjoyed views of the
beach, including Coquet Island and a yacht that appeared to be stranded in the rocks just south of Low
Hauxley. While on the dunes, we could also see that the clouds in the distance threatened the possible
arrival of rain.

From the top of the dunes, we walked a few yards south so that we could get relatively easy access to the
beach, where we had the opportunity to observe and photograph various species of wading birds, including
ringed plover, turnstones, sanderling, curlew and oystercatcher.

Unfortunately, after about 15-20 minutes, it started to rain quite heavily, and it was decided that, with little
prospect of the weather and visibility improving, we should abandon the walk and return to our cars.
