7 Way Interclub PDI Knockout Competition - Sunday 20th November 2016.

On Sunday 20th November 2016 it was Wooler & District Camera Clubs turn to host the Annual Northern Counties
Photographic Federation 7 - Way Interclub PDI Knockout Competition. The seven clubs that make up the Northern
Area Group are expected to take part and in this event each club submits twenty digital images, fifteen to be shown
at any one time, together with five substitutes that may be used at each clubs discretion to replace any low scoring
images in the previous round. These images were viewed and scored live by a panel of three judges who give a
mark out of five using the automatic scoring machine which gives an immediate total for each projected image.
An exciting afternoon of competition was anticipated but this was soon eroded away as we were informed that the
host club Wooler did not have an entry, then that Ashington had not entered and just to round things off, that one
of the judges was unavailable.
In view of the fact that there were now only five clubs someone decided that all clubs would enter the first round
and that the top two clubs would go straight to the "Trophy Final" and the remaining three clubs would compete in
the "Plate" Competition. This meant that there was no semi final and that clubs would only have one opportunity to
exchange their images which defeated the whole point of the exercise and changed the composition of the
First Round - Alnwick 174 marks, Cambois 167 marks, Morpeth 164 marks, Blyth 160 marks, Amble 142 marks.
Plate Final - Morpeth 178 marks, Blyth 160 marks, Amble 154 marks.
Trophy Final - Alnwick 179 marks, Cambois 175 marks.
So Alnwick win the Trophy Final and Morpeth win the Plate Competition.
Morpeth Chairman Glyn Trueman collected the "Plate" on behalf of Morpeth but there was no formal awarding of
the Knockout Trophy to Alnwick as the Trophy was missing. This summed up the whole afternoon and leaves a big
question mark over the future of this competition.
