Club Meeting, 4 way Interclub Competition - Tuesday 19th November 2024.

On Tuesday, 19th November, the Morpeth Camera Club hosted the first round of the 4-Way Interclub Competition,
featuring entries from Cramlington, Gateshead, Gosforth and Morpeth clubs. This initial round focused on Projected
Digital Images (PDI), with the Print entries scheduled for the New Year. Guest Judge George Ledger ARPS DPAGB,
with 30 years of experience, informed the audience that his forthcoming comments would be subjective. He had
reviewed ten digital images from each club on various subjects and was present to critique each image and assign
a score out of thirty.

The competition showcased a diverse array of images, including landscapes, sports, wildlife, coastal scenes, garden
and exotic birds, still life, portraiture, and abstract works. As each image was displayed, George shared his personal
interpretation of the subject matter, provided feedback, and occasionally suggested modifications to enhance the
photograph. His advice covered cropping techniques, ensuring wildlife images appeared natural with ample space,
the importance of careful sharpening and processing, the impact of strong sunsets, the narrative element in sports
photography, and the connection between photographer and subject in portraiture and studio work. Once the totals
had been verified the results were as follows:

                                          Gosforth Camera Club....................243 marks.
                                          Morpeth Camera Club....................225 marks.
                                          Gateshead Camera Club................206 marks.
                                          Cramlington Camera Club.............192 marks.

Vice Chairman Jeremy Cooper thanked the judge for his entertaining, humourous and useful comments. Thanks also
go to the Morpeth members who attended and supplied a finger buffet that concluded a successful evening and to
Graham Sorrie, Paul Appleby, Davy Bolam, Sue Dawson, Glyn Trueman, Paul Kidd and Peter Downs whose images
made up the Morpeth entry.

The club now looks forward to February 2025 when the clubs meet again for the second leg where the Colour and
Monochrome Print section entries will be judged. The marks from both competitions will be added together to find
the overall winners who will receive the 4-Way Trophy.
