Summer Walk No1, Seaton Sluice - Tuesday 14th June 2022.
The Morpeth Camera Club season of summer walks to places of local interest commenced on Tuesday 14th June with
a visit to the popular coastal village of Seaton Sluice. Leaving our start point of the Fountain's Head car park just off
the links road, we headed south on the public footpath across the top of the dunes before dropping down to the beach.

After a few hundred yards we reached the mouth of the Seaton Burn as it flowed into the sea and approaching from
this direction gave a different view of this picturesque area. The group then followed the course of the burn to explore
the harbour area which was once used for the export of coal, salt and glass bottles. This inner harbour is now a safe
mooring for the many small fishing boats and pleasure craft where colourful buoys, old ropes, rusty chains, lobster
pots, rocks and seaweed all made good subjects for photography in this nautical setting.

Moving on, the group continued to the bridge and after crossing to the south side of the harbour, climbed up to the
headland. Crossing the wooden bridge over the man made cut, we accessed Rocky island where wildflowers, views
of the bay, rocky cliffs, and the Watch House museum building were all recorded in the evening sunshine. Returning
to the area surrounding the Kings Arms, several members viewed and photographed the unusual work of local artist
Tom Newstead displayed outside his gallery and workshop. Under the collective name of Shanti Art, he crafts quirky
figures and mythical creatures using driftwood, shells, beach finds and other throw away items.

Leaving the headland, we had views of the jubilee beacon and the rock formation known as Charlies garden before
we headed back to our start point via Collywell Bay Road and Seaton Sluice bridge. Big thank you to everyone who
attended making it a good first walk on the summer programme.
