Summer Walk No4, Low Hauxley - Tuesday 3rd August 2021.

Morpeth Camera Club run a summer programme of informal walks where we visit places of local interest
to enjoy our photography. On Tuesday 3rd August 2021, it was another fine evening as we gathered at
the Beacon Hill car park for our evening walk around the Low Hauxley area.

Heading south on Hauxley Lane our route led us into Low Hauxley. Originally a fishing village, it was built
at this location as it lay opposite the haven, a rock free area of the bay that was suitable for launching
fishing cobles. Fishermen caught white fish on long baited lines in winter and salmon with nets in the
summer. The fishing industry is long gone but the small hamlet is now a popular tourist base with a large
percentage of holiday homes.

Continuing through the village and south on the Northumberland coastal path we then walked east through
the dunes and down onto the deserted beach. Low tide had left a long sweeping expanse of sand lit by the
warm evening light. It was easy to see why this is a popular seascape location as club members were soon
spread out taking many images.

Moving north up the beach, holiday cottages, seaweed & sea birds were all captured and the layered rock
formations provided strong leading lines that led the eye out into the calm sea. With fine views of Coquet
Island that lies less than a mile offshore, we returned to our start point via the dunes to complete our
circular walk on our first visit to this location as a club. Thank you to all that attended.
