Summer Walk No8, Newbiggin by the Sea - Tuesday 31st August 2021.

Walk number eight on Morpeth Camera Clubs summer programme took place on Tuesday 31st August 2021 as
we visited Newbiggin by the Sea. Twelve members were joined by two prospective new members as we met in
the Church Point car park for our informal walk around the coastal town. The aim of the walks is to visit places
of local interest to practice our camera skills, sharing ideas to improve and enjoy our photography.
I decided that this would be a go as you please wander rather than a formal guided tour and members were
soon spread out looking for images. Several took advantage of the warm evening light to explore the nearby
St Bartholomews Church and the many weatherbeaten gravestones that surround it, whilst others walked past
the maritime centre and along the promenade taking them to the RNLI station and fishing boats in the boatyard.
The low tide had left the bay exposed and images were found in the wet sand made with sea coal, shells and
seaweed. Seabirds feeding on the tideline were another possible subject to test our skills. One of the main
attractions in the bay area is the famous offshore sculpture 'Couple' by Sean Henry, nicknamed 'Ebb & Flow' by
locals, with a smaller version of 'The Couple' in a small park on the promenade.
After nearly two hours of photography, the cloud rolled in and the light faded. Whilst some of the group sampled
the local fish and chips, others made their way back to the start point to conclude a good evening walk. This
was the last outing on the summer programme and a big thank you to those who attended. Looking forward to
seeing images from all the walks in the new season of regular club meetings in the Morpeth Methodist Church
every Tuesday evening.
