Summer Walk, North Shields Fish Quay - Tuesday 19th June 2018.

On Tuesday 19th June, the first visit on the Morpeth Camera Club Summer Walks programme took place as members
met at North Shields Fish Quay for a wander around this popular area. Things started well with excellent fish & chips
from a local riverside chippy, but then the only thing not under our control took over when the weather changed. Rain
forced the group to seek shelter in the net sheds and fish market surrounding "The Gut" where numerous fishing boats
were moored in port. A blanket of heavy rain and low cloud then swept in from the sea reducing visibility and after an
hour it was obvious that it was set for the evening. In an effort to capture something from our visit we concentrated on
the boats, recording colour and close up images of nets and fishing equipment before heading round to the new artwork
"Fiddlers Green" by local artist Ray Lonsdale. This statue features a traditional fisherman looking out over the Mouth of
the Tyne and is a memorial to those lost at sea from the Port of North Shields. Unfortunately the conditions deteriorated
further and brought our walk to a close. Thank you to those who attended for your support, let's hope for better weather
on future club walks throughout the summer.
