Virtual Meeting, Members Pdi Competition - Tuesday 22nd December 2020.

At the final virtual meeting before Christmas, Morpeth Camera Club held a Members Projected Digital Image (Pdi)
Competition, which was organised by Programme Secretary Glyn Trueman. Members were invited to submit up to
four images, which resulted in fifty nine images being entered into this informal contest. Glyn had previously asked
each author to choose one of their entries that they would like to be discussed on the evening.

The meeting started with all of the images being shown individually, no one was aware who the image belonged
to and everyone was asked to give each image a mark out of five.

Re-enactment and street performer portraits, wildlife in game reserves, land and seascapes, urban gritty street
photography, cathedral interiors, a stylised moored boat, modern architecture, flora & fauna, colourful composite
creations, brightly lit fairground rides and abstract patterns were all included in this eclectic mix of entries. It was
evident that club members had seized this opportunity to be more creative, using layers, filters, flipping and special
effects. Without the constraints of a theme, an open competition gave the participants free rein to showcase their
expertise and preferred genre, which is not always possible in a more formal competition.

While the scores for each image were being added up by Glyn to determine the overall results, Club Chairman John
Barnes led an interactive session where there was discussion on many of the images entered. The anonymous authors
were firstly able to receive honest and constructive feedback from their fellow members after which they could talk
through their methods and answer any queries.

Across the competition, scores ranged from thirty to fifty eight marks. Three images received fifty marks, Cathedral
by Sue Dawson, Giraffe Doing Camouflage by Graham Sorrie, and Coxswain by Dave Bisset and were awarded Joint
Third place.

Three images received fifty one marks, Malaga Marina by Paul Appleby, Sanderling by Glyn Trueman, and Funchal
Sunset, also by Paul Appleby and were awarded Joint Second place.

But the overall winner of the Members Projected Digital Image Competition was The Face by Davy Bolam, which
received 58 marks.

                                                   1st.

This was an entertaining and fun competition, which had the advantage of collective feedback and an opportunity for club
members to learn from and be inspired.
