Club Meeting, 'What I Did in the Summer' - Tuesday 10th September 2024.

At the second meeting of the new season on Tuesday 10th September 2024, members were asked to give short
presentations on the theme "What I Did in the Summer." Fifteen members shared examples of their photography,
showcasing their days out, visits to places of interest, vacations abroad, and trips to local events and attractions.

Graham Sorrie opened the evening with a selection of images taken on recent trips to the Canadian Rockies, the
Colosseum in Rome and St Andrews Golf Course. Paul Appleby followed with an A.V.sequence that featured his
summer break and included images of the southern lake district, the Yorkshire coast, Cragside and a holiday in
Corfu. Closer to home the third presentation was an A.v. featuring stationary engines, steam traction engines, farm
machinery and other exhibits taken by Davy Bolam at the Red Row Vintage Club Rally at Druridge Bay Country Park.

Club Chairman Peter Downs shared his experience of a flying lesson out of Eshott Airfield with some images of the
Northumberland coast from above, giving a totally different outlook on familiar places. High tea on a steam train,
images of Richmond and Whitby in North Yorkshire and a day trip to Holy Island were some of the highlights of Dave
Bisset's summer. A short presentation by Martin Goble saw a change of scene with a varied mix of moody monochrome
images taken at Warkworth, Whalton, Seaton Sluice and Newbiggin by the Sea whilst on the club's summer walks.

Views of land, sea and sky followed as Dave Birch took us around the Isle of Mull and Tobermory's well-known row
of colourful houses. Restoration of a private woodland, colourful wildflowers, lichen and fungi were well captured by
David Moore, whilst new member David Pitkeathley took us to Bradley Gardens at Wylam, Capheaton Hall Country
House, and then into his garden with flower and butterfly shots.

A tall ship at Blyth, St Cuthberts Chapel at Ushaw, several nature images and a visit to the Shildon Railway Museum
were just some of the pictures taken by Jeremy Cooper. A set of monochrome images on the theme of country houses
was next, where Susan Dawson had recorded the details and textures of some outstanding buildings. Carrying on the
architectural theme, Pat Wood explored an abandoned farmstead with images of neglect, decay and dereliction.

Eric Anderson then presented his images of Shildon Railway Museum, Edinburgh Fringe, Rievaulx Abbey and Bolton
Abbey. The penultimate presentation saw another change of subject matter as Roseanne Robinson took us on a walking
holiday in the Ionian Islands, west of mainland Greece. The evening concluded with John Thompson sharing his images,
with a little bit of history, of the beautiful city of Bologna in northern Italy.

This was an interesting exercise because it allowed everyone to appreciate the various subjects captured by other
members during their outings with their cameras. Chairman Peter Downs expressed his gratitude to everyone who
contributed to an entertaining evening, which also demonstrated how we all perceive and capture things differently
while pursuing our hobby.

Davy.
